3rd Annual This
September, State Officers from around the Country met in Washington,
DC to attend HOSA's 3rd Annual Washington Leadership Academy (WLA).
Representing New Jersey HOSA was Member-at-Large, Jonayris Reyna.
This is the second year that NJ officers have attended the WLA where
they join their peers and are invited to participate in building awareness
for HOSA among national and state leaders. The WLA also provides networking
opportunities and equips officers with the skills necessary to better
lead and advocate in their home state. There was plenty of time for
fun in between the training sessions and history lessons. Take a peek
at our photos to see what is in store when Jonayris gives a full account
of the WLA in the upcoming Fall newsletter

JERSEY HOSA The NJ HOSA Executive Council voted at their March 16,
2009 meeting that the scholarship award will remain at $2,400. Eighteen
applications were received by NJ HOSA and scholarship interviews were
conducted on the Sunday session of State Leadership Conference in
March. It was a difficult decision for our judges considering the
fine pool of applicants. We are happy to announce the following NJ
HOSA scholarships: HERMAN
NAMED HONORARY Johanna Herman, Salem County Vocational Technical School (SCVTS), was presented with a plaque as a token of our appreciation for her service. Mrs. Herman started teaching at SCVTS in 2005. From her first day, her only focus was helping her students to become successful. A strong component to that goal, she felt, was for her students to be a part of NJ HOSA. Over the course of three and a half years, she has since grown her HOSA chapter into the thriving organization it is today. Her dedication has helped HOSA become a household name in her school's local community. Under her guidance, her chapter has volunteered for Angel Food at Church of the Nazarene; Meals on Wheels; visited local nursing homes with fruit baskets and flowers; organized food drives; and collected cell phones for Women's Services. Her students strongly feel that they would not be the people they are today without her dedication, compassion and support. One student is quoted as saying "She has inspired so many of us. Her dedication is present in everything she does, from the big things to the small ones. I am so grateful..." Congratulations, Joey! CONGRATULATIONS
TO OUR NEW After the ballots were cast following a very successful and energetic campaign, the following candidates were voted into office: Theresa Krawiec, President All of our candidates did a wonderful job campaigning. The number of candidates has increased steadily over the years due in part to a very concerted effort by Region III Vice President, Seiichi Villalona, immediate past officers and our current executive council. Thanks to all of our officer candidates, voting delegates and membership for your concern in the governing of our successful association.
